How the tournament works

Baseball on widdy boards with barrel darts, the way it's been played at the Lodge for thirty years.

The game — baseball

Nine innings. In each inning, every player throws three darts at that inning's number — a single scores 1, a double 2, a triple 3. Teams of two: both players throw each inning, and the team's score is the pair's combined total. Highest score after nine innings wins.

Extra innings: a tie after nine plays on until one team leads at the end of an inning — the 10th inning targets 10, the 11th targets 11, and so on up the board, wrapping back around to 1 and repeating as long as it takes.

Tournament format

House rules

  1. Fallen darts. A dart must remain in the board only until the thrower's foot leaves the line after the third dart. If teams can't agree on a fallen dart that qualifies, it counts for the lower score.
  2. Ring splits. A dart that splits the metal ring counts for the outer area — a split between a 2 and a 3 counts as a 3; a split between a 3 and blue counts as blue (zero).
  3. Robin Hoods. A dart that lands in another dart counts as zero.
  4. Throwing for center. A multiple bullseye when throwing for center is a re-shoot.
  5. The Lenker Rule. No practicing on other boards during a match.

Boards & darts

Widdy boards and barrel darts, six boards running at once. House darts are provided — and yes, each board gets a potato.
